Exploring Cobá

We decided to do some exploring and headed to Cobá. Cobá is an ancient Mayan City on the Yucatan Peninsula, located in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo. We were so excited to go here because our daughter who is an Anthropology major had always talked to us about all the cool ruins she studied during her college years.

Archaeological evidence indicates that Cobá was first settled between 50 BC and 100 AD. At that time, there was a town with wood buildings with palm fronts and flat platforms.

At 137-feet tall, the Mayan pyramid, Nohoch Mul, which means “great mound,” is the tallest in the Yucatan Peninsula and the second tallest Mayan pyramid in the world, taller than Chichén Itzá You are still able to climb this pyramid which is rare because all other ruins we have been too you are not allowed. Rudy climbed the pyramid all the way to the top as for me, I attempted to do so but only made it to the 5th step. (I got to get in better shape to continue hiking). This place is amazing and if you are ever in this area you must go visit.
